Golden Acre supports Tesco winter food collection 2023

Last weekend saw the annual Tesco Winter Food Collection take place at stores across the country.  Volunteers provide support by encouraging shoppers to donate an item of food to support their local community.  As part of our partnership with The Trussell Trust and our Golden Acre volunteering program, 7 members of the GA team were out in force to lend a hand.  Over several days the team chatted to shoppers, collected donations and packed them ready for transport to the distribution centres.

The food items collected will make a huge difference to people across the country facing food insecurity because of the cost of living crisis.  Last winter, customers donated 236 tonnes of vital food.  This is the equivalent of 560,706 meals!

Sarah Forsyth, our Operations Director volunteered at her local store in Glasgow and commented:

“You get used to rejection pretty quickly, but it’s euphoria when someone takes a leaflet and them comes back to you with a donation at the end of their shop!  The sense of teamwork with other volunteers who all share the same goal is incredible and knowing that we are making a difference to those in need cannot be put into words.”

Thank you to all our Golden Acre volunteers for donating your time to such a great cause.
